Throughout my coaching journey, I\u2019ve always believed in the potential of young players. Giving them opportunities\u2014even in challenging moments\u2014has been a core part of my approach. It\u2019s not just about building for the future, but about strengthening the team in the present through trust, patience, and shared goals.<\/p>\n
But the process of integrating young players into the senior team can\u2019t be pushed from one side alone\u2014it requires mutual commitment. The coach must provide opportunity and guidance, while the player responds with responsibility, effort, and readiness to grow.<\/p>\n
At NK Aluminij, during a season where every point mattered in the fight for survival, I gave 12 young players<\/strong> their first-team debut in Slovenia\u2019s top division. It wasn\u2019t easy, but with the support of the club and a clear development plan, these players stepped up and contributed when it mattered most. Their growth was a reflection of the trust placed in them\u2014and the hard work they put in every day.<\/p>\n Joining NK Radomlje during a difficult stretch\u201415 matches without a win\u2014I focused on rebuilding confidence and team spirit. Part of that meant giving younger players a chance to prove themselves. Their energy and commitment helped shift the atmosphere, and together we managed to turn things around and secure our place in the league.<\/p>\n At Mura, I continued working closely with the academy, helping several young players transition into the senior team. Even as the club faced growing financial challenges, we stayed committed to development and gave younger players meaningful roles within a competitive squad. Their performances were a bright spot in a difficult season.<\/p>\n Sadly, the club went into bankruptcy after that final season<\/strong>, bringing an abrupt end to many promising projects. It was a tough moment for everyone involved\u2014players, staff, and supporters. Still, I\u2019m proud of the work we did together and grateful for the chance to help young players grow, even in uncertain circumstances. Some of them have since moved on to new opportunities, continuing their journey in football.<\/p>\n Earlier in my career, I had the privilege of working with a talented group that went on to win the U17 national league<\/strong>. Many of those players have since grown into professionals, and a few are now representing Slovenia at the international level. I\u2019m proud to have played a small part in their journey, but the credit belongs to their dedication and the support systems around them.<\/p>\n Whether at FC Koper<\/strong>, NK Maribor, NK Olimpija<\/strong>, or elsewhere, my focus has remained the same:<\/p>\n I\u2019ve learned that when young players feel trusted and connected to the team, they often give more than expected.
